On Monday 12th September 1897, a 35 kilometers race was held along the routes running around Lake Maggiore, from Stresa to Arona and back.

At the start there were ten participants: four cars, two trycicles and
four bikes.

Thus was born a biennal event, that nowadays
still fascinates as an itinerant open-air collection: the historical revival of one of the most ancient car competitions, dedicated to vehicles built until the 30s.

The spirit of the race aims to bring back on the road the largest possible number of veterans, in order to make them known to the public and also prove that they are still able to go, as per their original purpose, instead of confining them inside a museum.
